PATIENT Q&A
We have compiled the most frequently asked questions from patients visiting OSANG Neurosurgery.
Dysautonomia General 4 items
What is dysautonomia?
Dysautonomia is a condition in which the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems is disrupted, causing symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, indigestion, anxiety, and sleep disorders. It is characterized by multiple symptoms appearing simultaneously without structural abnormalities.
Can dysautonomia be fully treated?
Changes in symptoms and function vary from person to person. NPT, the Neural Reset Protocol, and TMS are considered according to examination and assessment results, with symptom relief and functional improvement as treatment goals. A cure or return to a normal range cannot be guaranteed.
How is dysautonomia diagnosed?
We perform objective evaluations of autonomic function including Heart Rate Variability (HRV) analysis, tilt table test, and Valsalva maneuver. A comprehensive diagnosis is made along with symptom pattern analysis.
Other hospitals said nothing is wrong. Can OSANG help?
Receiving "no abnormalities found" on standard tests is a hallmark characteristic of dysautonomia. OSANG Neurosurgery is equipped with specialized autonomic nervous system testing equipment that can diagnose functional abnormalities that conventional tests may miss.
What is the NPT program?
NPT (Neuro Pulse Therapy) is a non-surgical physical therapy that delivers direct stimulation along autonomic and peripheral nerve pathways. Whether it is appropriate is determined after clinical assessment.
How is the Neural Reset Protocol different from NPT?
NPT (Neuro Pulse Therapy) directly stimulates autonomic and peripheral nerve pathways as a non-surgical physical therapy. The Neural Reset Protocol is a broader integrated program based on autonomic testing and symptom assessment. A clinician determines whether either or both are appropriate for each patient.
How long does NPT or Neural Reset treatment typically take?
There is no fixed treatment period. Visit frequency and duration are determined after assessment and may change with the patient's condition and response; improvement within a particular timeframe cannot be guaranteed.
I have severe palpitations. Is it a heart problem?
In many cases, the cause is sympathetic nervous system overactivation rather than a heart abnormality itself. If cardiac tests show no abnormalities, we recommend getting an autonomic function test.
I have recurring dizziness. What tests should I get?
Along with ear-related issues such as BPPV and vestibular neuritis, orthostatic hypotension and autonomic dysfunction should be checked. At OSANG Neurosurgery, we differentiate causes through tilt table tests and autonomic function tests.
Can anxiety and panic attacks be treated at a neurosurgery clinic?
Anxiety and panic symptoms can involve multiple factors. After assessing autonomic function, options such as TMS, NPT, or the Neural Reset Protocol may be considered. Responses vary by individual, so improvement cannot be guaranteed.
Can chronic sleep disorders be treated without sleeping pills?
The cause and course of a sleep disorder vary by individual. Non-drug options such as NPT or TMS may be considered after assessment, but the need for medication and treatment response depend on clinical evaluation; medication-free improvement cannot be guaranteed.
Is indigestion related to the autonomic nervous system?
Yes. Gastrointestinal motility is directly regulated by the autonomic nervous system, especially the vagus nerve. When the sympathetic nervous system is overactive, gastric motility decreases, potentially causing indigestion, bloating, and abdominal distension.
Are chronic fatigue and brain fog treatable conditions?
Yes. Chronic fatigue and brain fog are related to a complex interplay of autonomic dysfunction, decreased cerebral blood flow, and neuroinflammation. After precise analysis of the cause, we proceed with combined treatment using NPT, TMS, and Neural Reset.
Can recurring headaches be related to the autonomic nervous system?
Yes. Autonomic imbalance can affect cerebrovascular constriction and dilation, triggering or worsening headaches. Autonomic evaluation is especially important for tension-type headaches and chronic headaches.
What happens during the first visit?
The first visit proceeds in the following order: symptom questionnaire, autonomic function test (HRV, etc.), doctor consultation, and personalized treatment plan. The entire process takes approximately 60-90 minutes.
Is the treatment covered by insurance?
Some tests and consultations are covered by national health insurance, while specialized treatments such as NPT, TMS, and Neural Reset are non-covered services. For exact costs, please refer to our non-covered services page or ask during your consultation.
Is there anything I need to prepare before my visit?
Bringing a list of current medications and previous test results would be helpful. No special fasting is required; just come in comfortable clothing.
Can I make an appointment online?
You can make consultations and appointments through our KakaoTalk channel (@OSANG Neurosurgery). Phone reservations are also available. Please let us know your preferred date and a brief description of your symptoms for proper scheduling.
I am receiving treatment at another hospital. Can I combine treatments?
Whether treatments can be combined depends on current medications and treatment details. Share this information with the clinician so potential interactions and risks can be reviewed before deciding; a conflict-free or risk-free plan cannot be guaranteed in advance.
